FIBA Africa Board convenes in Kigali, approves reshaping of Executive Committee

 

KIGALI (Rwanda) – The second meeting of the FIBA Africa Board, term of office 2023-27, was held in Kigali, Rwanda, on Friday, May 31 on the sidelines of the 2024 Basketball Africa League Finals. 

The session was chaired by FIBA Africa President Anibal Manave, with FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis and FIBA Executive Director Africa Alphonse Bile also in attendance.

The following topics were discussed during the meeting:

- The FIBA Africa Board approved the report of the decisions taken in March in Abidjan.

-  The FIBA Africa Board took numerous decisions including the modification of the Supplementary Regulations.

-  The Board approved the restructuring of FIBA Afica's Executive Committee with appointments of two new positions.

The new composition of the FIBA Africa Board and the Executive Committee are as follows:

The Board:

- FIBA Africa President Anibal Manave.
- The 7 Presidents of Sub-Zones: Omar Barshushi (Zone 1), Mathieu Faye (Zone 2), Sam Ahmedu (Zone 3), Eric Niat (Zone 4), Hesham El Hariri (Zone 5), Paulo Madeira (Zone 6) and Abel Ntsay (Zone 7).
- Executive Director Alphonse Bilé.
- General Treasurer Adel Tooma.
- Three members of minority Joy Olinga, Salma Ben Romdhane and Hardy Boineelo.
- President of the Competitions Council Condé Fodé Amara.
- President of the Development Council Jean Michel Ramaroson.
- President of the Communication & Media Council Abdellatif Hatim.
- President of the Women's Basketball Council Bah Maimouna Diallo.
- African members of the FIBA Board and Executive Committee Pascale Mugwanesa and Jean Michel Ramaroson.
- A Board member to be appointed at a later date, if necessary.

The Executive Committee comprises as follows:

- FIBA Africa President Anibal Manave.
- Vice-President of FIBA Africa to be appointed later.
- Executive Director Alphonse Bilé.
- The General Treasurer Adel Tooma.
- Three members appointed by the Central Office of FIBA Africa on the recommendation of the President and its  Executive Director, namely Condé Fodé Amara, Jean Michel Ramaroson and Paulo Madeira.
- One representative of the Sub-Zones appointed by the FIBA Africa Board on the recommendation of the President and the Executive Director, Sam Ahmedu.
- African members of the FIBA Central Office and the Executive Committee, Jean Michel Ramaroson and Pascale Mugwanesa

Other matters

The next meeting of the FIBA Africa Board will be held in ordinary session in November.
